At the stop, the question is always the same: how long?

AMTAB buses with their GPS switched on move across the map in real time. Tap one to see where it is, how fast it's going and how many stops are left before yours.

The bus moves on the map as you watch.

Every bus with its GPS on appears on the map with its line number on its icon, and moves as it makes its way across the city. In two seconds you know whether your bus is still three stops away or has just gone right past you.

Tap a bus and see its whole route. The vehicle card opens with its line, the time of the last update and its speed, and the map draws its path with the stops numbered in the order it will reach them. At a glance you can tell how far along the trip it is.

Tap a stop and read the next arrivals. For every line coming through you get the direction, marked by an icon and a colour, and the exact time it will pass. It's the same information you'd go looking for on the sign at the stop, except you have it in your hand before you leave the house.

Not every bus is tracked, and that needs saying. The GPS is switched on by the driver on board, so real-time coverage changes from trip to trip and is out of the app's hands. When the signal is there you watch the bus move on the map; when it isn't, you still have the AMTAB scheduled time.

One search box for everything. Type a line number, the name of a stop or any address in the city into the same field, and the app works out what you're after: the bus in real time, if available, the stop on the map with its timetable, or the journey that gets you there.

Try it before you wait any longer.

Free on iPhone and Android, no sign-up and no subscription to activate: download it, open it, look up your stop and ten seconds later you know when the next bus is coming.

If you live in Bari, you already know which lines to take.

If you know the network by heart, checking the times from the list of lines may be all you need. Pick a direction and you'll find the full list of stops and the times the buses pass, day by day.

Every line, stop by stop.

Pick a line and a direction, outbound or return, and you get the complete sequence of stops, map above and list below, in the exact order the bus reaches them. If a trip is running in real time at that moment you'll see it marked, with the vehicle's position along the route.

The same times as at the stop, but in your pocket. Open a stop and read every scheduled departure, split by line and direction, exactly as on the sign at the stop. You can change the date too, so you can check the times for a Saturday or any other day of the week.

Favourites, so you don't keep searching for the same things. Save the stop outside your front door and the lines you take every day, and they're waiting when you open the app. Tap the heart to add them to favourites, and next time you open the app they'll be right there.

And if you only got to Bari yesterday and don't know how to get around?

If you don't know the network you don't need a list of lines, you need to know how to get somewhere. From the map, just type your destination in the search bar, pick the day and time, and the app builds the route with the buses to take.

From where you are to where you're going.

Set the starting point, or use your location, and choose the destination address. You get the list of all the options with the number of changes, departure and arrival times, how long the journey takes and how many kilometres it covers, and then you pick the one you like best.

Tomorrow evening at 18:00 works too. Set a date and time and you can plan a journey for later on, so you can get organised in advance. Whether you're leaving tomorrow morning or next week, the app tells you how to get there.

Step by step, on foot and by bus. Every leg is described down to the last detail: from the number of changes to the distance you'll walk and the time it takes to reach your destination. The whole route is drawn on the map, with the walking parts kept apart from the bus parts.

We've thought of everyone.

Whether you commute every day or you're just visiting, Bari Smart goes with you outside the app too: a widget that keeps your stop on the phone's home screen, the official AMTAB notices you read straight from the map, and eight languages for everyone arriving from elsewhere.

Your stop on the home screen.

Add your stop to favourites and put the widget next to the apps you use most: from there you'll see the next buses arriving, sorted by time. It refreshes on its own without you doing anything, so when you leave the house you already know whether you'll have to run for the stop or can take your time.

AMTAB notices, where you need them. Diversions, suspended stops, strikes and route changes come from AMTAB's official channel and show up right away in the Map section, in the panel you pull up from the bottom. So you get the bad news before you leave, not after twenty minutes at the stop.

It speaks eight languages, widget included. Italian, English, German, Spanish, French, Czech, Polish and Romanian. If you're off a cruise ship or new in town, the app is already in your language, and you don't have to guess what «outbound» means from the icons.

From Santo Spirito to Torre a Mare.

Every AMTAB line is in the app, including the circle routes, the night services, the shuttles and the park-and-ride ones.

Now you've got no excuse not to download it.

Free, and no account. No sign-up, no subscription, no email to hand over: you download it and it works straight away.

Official AMTAB data. The app is independent and wasn't commissioned by AMTAB, but it runs on the company's official data, and AMTAB features it on its own site.

Light by day, dark at night. The theme follows your phone, or you set it yourself: so at eleven at night the map won't blind you.

In Bari since 2013. It was the first public transport app in the city and it's still here: over 50,000 downloads and updates that keep coming.

Everyone loves BariSmart, visitors and locals alike.

Finalmente è tornata a funzionare e adesso dispone anche degli itinerari. La migliore app in circolazione per consultare gli orari dell'Amtab.
